A shopping holiday – talk about the perfect combination. What girl wouldn’t love to spend her holiday shopping for bargains? There’s no doubt about it, the world is your oyster if you’re in the mood for a shopping holiday. So here are five destinations to get you started.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia is an Aladdin’s Cave of shoes, handbags, clothes and accessories (there’s even something here for the boys). Start your shopping holiday at Sungei Wang Plaza for everything from cute hair clips to electronics. From Sungei Wang you’re sure to wonder into Bukit Bintang Plaza (or BB Plaza for short). A facial or massage is a must do here. The great thing about the department stores in KL is the fixed prices. If you don’t like bartering, no problem! But, if you fancy yourself as a bit of a haggler then head to the Petaling Street Chinatown Markets. It’s humid, crowded, dirty and exactly what you’ve been looking for. To quote the KL shopping queen, “This is genuine fake heaven.”
New York, USA
A city that needs no introduction is New York. The fashion and shopping capital of the USA, this city that never sleeps is perfect for a shopping holiday. It would take a lifetime to realize all the shopping potential here. Check out the Adidas Originals Store for a bit of triple-stripe action. The Apple Store in SoHo will definitely blow your hair back. And a trip to the Big Apple wouldn’t be complete without stopping by Barney’s and Bloomingdale’s. Treat yourself with a personal shopping experience. These gals (and guys) really know their stuff and will have you looking fabulous.
Hong Kong, Asia
You have to admire a city that loves shopping so much they dedicate a whole festival to it! The ultimate shopping holiday option, the annual Hong Kong Shopping Festival runs for about two months (the next one is 01 July 2010 to 31 August 2010) and is a shopper’s paradise. Broken down into four areas – fashion and beauty, jewelry including watches, electronics and traditional Chinese wares – there is something for everyone here. And while you’re here, you might as well pop over the boarder to Shenzhen in China. Believe me when I say you’ll have died and gone to bargain hunter’s heaven.
London, England
For a shopping holiday, London offers up a mix of ultra fabulous boutique designer stores and wardrobe staples like GAP. Completely blow the budget with a trip to Harrods, make your pound stretch as far as it can at Marks and Spencer or find some truly unique bits and pieces at Camden markets. Make sure you also check out Carnaby St, home of the swinging sixties revolution, and the ever popular Notting Hill weekend markets.
Stones Corner, Brisbane, Australia
I had to slip this one in - a little shopping holiday tribute to my home town. Stones Corner is the place to go for all the chain stores. Once upon a time it was all about factory seconds and last season’s fashions but these days this little pocket on Brisbane’s Southside makes a welcome change from the monster shopping malls that dominate suburbia. Spend the morning shopping then pop into one of the cafes for a quick bite to eat.
